Cooking With Your Box

Hosted by none other than the fun & quirky trio otherwise known as Martha Goes Green, our Members’ Only Cooking Class will give you the confidence to make simple yet creative meals with your seasonal set box.

On Saturday 20th October 2012, at CERES’ brand new Community Kitchen, fifteen lucky Fair Food members will receive a fun, hands-on and informative lesson from Ruth, Jess and Rosie, the brilliant women behind the delightful and delicious vegetarian cookbook, Martha Goes Green.

Make a day of it. Bring the kids, bring your partner. They can relax with a freshly pressed Fair Trade coffee from the newly renovated CERES Cafe, while you cook up a storm and the kids make friends, and explore the playground and chook pen.

What You Will Learn

If you sometimes find it challenging to cook seasonally from a set produce box, then this class will give you practical tips and tools to create simple yet effective meals with what you have on hand.

Part One 11:30 – 12:15pm

The enigmatic trio from Martha Goes Green will cover cooking with your box and flavour combining. A seasonal eating guide will be distributed and accompanied by a practical demonstration of how to make a small repertoire of basic salad dressings and dips. Accompaniments to be covered include making real good mayo, salad dressing & its variations, and fresh herb pesto.

Part Two 12:15 – 1:15pm

Practical group work with the goal of cooking with your box to make a group meal we can share at the end of the class.

From a general discussion and brainstorming session based on what’s in the box, you will then break off into small groups to make great seasonal masterpieces!

Part Three 1:15 – 2:15pm

We’re expecting a sunny day to eat, share and debrief outside!
